How To Render An Image Sequence In Maya

One of the most common way to export an animation from Autodesk Maya is by creating a rendered image sequence. Maya saves each frame as a separate image file, instead of creating the entire animation in one video. This gives you more control during post production.

How To Render An Image Sequence in Maya

Set Up the Animation: Make sure you have your animation done and that its ready to be rendered. Modify the camera, lighting and adjust the materials if needed.

Go to Render Settings: To access to the Render Settings window, click on the gear icon or Ctrl + Shift + R.

Set the Frame Range of your animation under Common tab This will tell the start and end frame (i.e. Frame 1 to Frame 240 for a 10 second animation at 24fps).

Choose Output Format: Select the Image Format from the dropdown like PNG, EXR or JPG Use formats such as PNG or EXR for post-processing wrangling.

Render the Sequence: To render the sequence, choose Render > Render Sequence. Maya will output each frame as a single image into the designated folder.

Compile the Image Sequence: After you are finished rendering, use a program such as Adobe Premiere or DaVinci Resolve to convert the image sequence into a video file. This gives one better control over the video composition, including frame rate and amount of compression
