How To Move A Camera In Blender 3D

In Blender, moving the camera is actually one of the most important aspects, because you need to take account to everything that will be included in your scenes, where will they be included, how should the camera frame everything, and more.

Blender provides several ways to adjust the camera’s position and orientation so you can obtain just the right view.

How to Move a Camera in Blender

Translating 101:

To move the camera around, select it in the 3D viewport and press G. Grab will tell you which axis you’re moving using. You can constrain movement to a given axis by pressing X, Y or Z after you’ve hit G.

Rotating the Camera:

To turn the camera in another direction adjust your shot angle with R.

Lock Camera to View:

To translate the camera like a user navigating around the viewpoint, go to View > Cameras and then select Lock Camera to View. This will let you modify the camera’s location with exactly the same controls for viewport navigation that are used on your computer to steer you in any given direction.

Track To Constraint:

One way to animate camera movement is the Track To constraint, which makes the camera automatically look at any object or character in the scene. This is very useful for tracking shots and focus pulls.

Blender Camera Animation

Keyframing Camera Movement: You can animate the camera by making keyframes for its position and orientation. All you need to do is select the camera, press I and then set a keyframe. At various points in time of the animation adjustment can be used to change where the camera lies.

Dolly and Pan Shots: Keyframing the camera rotation and location lets you create smooth dolly and pan shots that are common in movie production.
