Why Does My Render Output Look So Washed Out

In Blender or any other 3D software, if we see a rasterised image of an object that is washed out then it is mainly bad lighting or Color Management settings. Below is a guide on how to fix it and get some more colourful results.

Reasons that Washing-Out Renders Occur

Incorrect Color Management: Within Blender’s Render Properties, inside Color Management set the View Transform to Filmic for higher dynamic range. Using the Standard transform may lead to reduced contrast and color vibrance.

Overexposure: To elaborate, if the light in your scene is too high you will blow out the render. Tune the Exposure in the Render Properties, or tweak your lights down until you can live with it.

HDRI Intensity: Set down the HDRI environment that you use to lit your scene, or minimize the Strength in World Properties. The Scene itself can get too over exposed from HDRIs that end up looking very flat and washed out.

Gamma Settings: Look at the Gamma option in the Color Management field. More gamma will brighten your render, less gamma will give you more contrast.

With these changes you can adjust the washed-out look and create a more vibrant render.
