How To Render A Transparent Background In Blender

A regular task in Blender is making a transparent background, so in this tutorial I’ll go through the basics and how to do it, and some tips as well. Making an object with a transparent background allows to place it above other images or videos without manual removal of the background.

How to make a transparent background in Blender

Prepare the Scene: Load your scene in Blender and see that the object you will render is placed where it should be.

In Render setting turn on Enable Transparency.

Go to the Properties Panel.

Check Transparent option under Render Settings, Film section.

Select the Output Format: In the Output Properties Tab, ensure you are saving your file in a format that allows transparency (PNG for example)

Render Image: Press F12 to render the scene. When you do this, Blender will render an image with a background that is transparent, meaning you can use it within other projects without any post-processing necessary.

What is the Purpose of Rendering With Transparent Backgrounds?

Rendering with transparent backgrounds is great for creating assets that will be added into a larger scene, such as video overlays, website icons or game elements. With removing the background, that object becomes a part of all kinds of visuals.
